A Legacy Focused on Treatment and Healing

Adam Daly

The morning of May 26, 2021, Adam Daly called his primary care doctor to report feeling pressure in his abdomen. Within days, a simple doctor’s visit and a series of scans turned into a cancer diagnosis—lesions in both lungs, a tumor in his colon, and innumerable lesions in his liver. Diagnosed with stage-4 colon cancer just before his 50th birthday, Adam died 16 months later.

Adam received care and treatment at the Mass General Cancer Center at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. Adam’s oncologist, Barbara Civiello, M.D., was a shining star in an otherwise challenging time. Dr. Civiello was intelligent, kind, and direct. The family also received remarkably compassionate care from the oncology nurses and other individuals who provided ongoing support throughout his illness.

Adam wanted to pay tribute to Dr. Civiello and the Cancer Center through a planned donation after he died.

In keeping with Adam’s wishes, Nick, Morgan, and Andrea made a $100,000 pledge to the Mass General Cancer Center at Wentworth-Douglass in honor of Dr. Civiello. The gift is establishing a new assistance fund for Wentworth-Douglass cancer patients.

Adam’s wish was to remove financial barriers from patients so that they can focus on healing and treatment. This was his vision—the legacy he wanted to leave in his community. We hope you will consider making a thoughtful gift to the Adam Daly Fund to make his dream a reality—to honor the man who loved his community and felt deep compassion for his fellow cancer patients.

In 2024, $208,000 was raised by donors of Wentworth-Douglass to support patients via the Daly Fund.

The Daly fund now provides financial assistance to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital cancer patients in need. The fund can provide support in a myriad of ways for patients that have financial burdens so that they can address basic needs and focus on treatment and healing.
